About the Film
Irina, who struggles to achieve higher education and escape the violence of her extended dysfunctional family, is a young woman made harsh by her environment. An ambiguous sexual experience with an artist gives her the strength to fight the violent approach of the males in her family.
In Blue Moon, which won the Golden Shell at the San Sebastian Film Festival, Romanian director Alina Grigore depicts the contradictions of Irina, who is rendered tough and unrelenting as the tries to escape from the family ties that hurt her, and presents a strong and profound portrait of a woman character. An example of the strong realistic narratives of Romanian cinema, Blue Moon is a psychological drama that involves family, sex and a little bit of blood.
