Nathalie Álvarez Mesén is a Costa Rican-Swedish screenwriter and director. She started her career in physical theater in Costa Rica before pursuing her BFA degree in mime acting at the Stockholm University of the Arts in Sweden. She later graduated from Columbia University’s Graduate Film Program in New York with an MFA in film directing and screenwriting. An alumna of Berlinale Talents, TIFF Filmmaker Lab and NYFF Artist Academy, Mesén’s short films have screened at film festivals all over the world. Her short film Filip won the award for Best Film Under 15 Minutes at the 2016 Palm Springs ShortFest, and Asunder was screened at the 2016 Telluride Film Festival. She also co-wrote Entre Tú y Milagros, winner of the Horizons Award for Best Short Film in the Venice Film Festival 2020. She is currently developing her second feature film, The Wolf Will Tear Your Immaculate Hands.
